Walking and Biking in Berkeley with Kids
Walking and biking with kids in Berkeley makes getting there just as fun as the destination. On the WBB Events page, you can find organizations with kid-friendly walking and biking events.
Alameda County’s Safe Routes to School (SR2S) Program supports champions at school sites to organize events to promote walking and biking to school, learn-to-ride classes for schools, and improving infrastructure to make getting to and from school safer for all families. Reach out to get involved with SR2S.
SR2S has created maps of routes for walking and biking to each school in Berkeley. Schools are encouraged to share these maps with families. If your school’s map is outdated, reach out to get involved with SR2S to discuss updates. Some schools have established Bike Buses to assist students in biking to school as well. Information about the Malcolm X Bike Bus and Sylvia Mendez Bicibús are on their school’s websites as well.
SR2S also conducts School Safety Assessments in conjunction with school staff and city personal. If your school’s Safety Assessment is outdated or missing, you can request an updated School Safety Assessment here and work with SR2S and the City of Berkeley to make infrastructure around your school’s campus safer.
