Block Parties
Block parties are a great way to enjoy car-free walking and biking on your block. Neighbors can apply for weekend block party permits through the City of Berkeley. There is a fee for the permit. Barricades are provided by the City and must be picked up, set up, and returned by the neighbors.
Additionally, block party permits can be requested for National Night Out (usually the first Tuesday in August) and Halloween (when not on a weekend) between 5pm – 8pm.
Block parties can be a great way to discuss how to make walking and biking safer in your neighborhood. For blocks that want to try out street safety infrastructure options, Bike East Bay has a Traffic Calming Lending Library.
